Decorative Concrete Is An Asset To Any Property

By Ronald Green

The driveway made of concrete will increase the value of your home. At the same time it can be a distinctive entrance. Designs vary from wide to narrow. This is a functional and long lasting material. When decorative concrete is used it can mimic brick, cobblestone or large patterned segments of color.

The plain gray expanse can be accented by a border made to look like a row of bricks. It can be color tinted to any shade. A house with green shutters can be enhanced by a green tinted entryway to the garage.

Some of the most impressive homes in Kansas City MO have fancy decorative walkways in the yard. They wind through gardens. Having a walkway to match the patio is a lovely way to accentuate the yard.

Walking through the yard to see the flowers need not be difficult after a heavy rain. Your shoes will stay mud free with a garden walkway. Many homeowners enjoy gardening when it is done in raised flowerbeds.

Raised flowerbeds are often made using this decorative material to match the walkway. It too can be tinted to match the color of the home. Stamped concrete is another attractive possibility.

Stamping is done by pressing a form into the surface at exactly the right time prior to the drying period. It can be made to look like brick in any pattern. The segments can be large with variations in each or small to appear as cobblestones.

Imagine a patio poured in a lovely red brick pattern. The size and shape will be whatever the homeowner wants. After it dries, it can be protected and made to shine with a liquid finish. If there are solar lights in the yard, it will glow after dark.

Another choice that is designer quality is stained concrete. There are endless color choices. The two types are acid stains and water based stains. A contractor can show samples of actual concrete and how the color will look when finished. You may request custom blending if you do not find exactly what you want.

Stains are frequently used inside the home. The results are a rich color that has slight variations and a lovely patina. Earth tones have been the norm until recently. Now the choices have expanded to include offerings such as aqua blue, green and dark red.

It is the water based stains that offer this wide range of color choices. A floor can be done in white, black or any one of the bright colors. The homeowner can have one of these distinctive shades or a customized hue.

Imagine a room with an acid stained floor in a deep blue color. Paint the walls white and the contrast will be amazing. It will provide the perfect showcasing for furniture in the French provincial style. Add a white throw rug for a lovely contrast.

The patterns to choose from for a recreation room floor or a patio are endless. Match the brick walls of a raised garden bed to the color and pattern of the patio. The sidewalk and porch at the front of the home might be stained, stamped and tinted in a color and pattern that complements the architecture of the house.
