What if Gaming Characters Ran Debt Collection Businesses?

By Rob Sutter

Who is to say that all debt collection businesses have to be run the same? Being able to collect money that is owed is a task that carries a lot of weight but one would have to wonder how gaming characters would act in such regards. The best thing about a subject such as this is that there's so many ways that scenarios could go. Just like how video games are made from creativity, these kinds of storylines will call for a greater sense of creativity as well.

Mario is one name that everyone must have heard of at least one point in their lives. The mustachioed Italian plumber from a land of mushrooms and killer turtles is about as iconic as Superman. He has a family-friendly nature but I'm not sure how well that would translate to the industry of debt collecting. I could see him sitting at a desk with his hands cupped Sopranos style with a hoard of Toadstool people at his side, ready to work.

In Pokemon, the main goal is to capture as many types of the creatures inhabiting the world as possible. When this task is set in front of someone, the job of collecting owed money isn't as difficult for debt collection businesses. Debt collecting has a series of rules which companies like Rapid Recovery take seriously and Pokemon is no different when it comes to its own guidelines. Those who are morally good and keep hard work in mind will reap the benefits of their own hard work while the others will fall flat.

If debts were far overdue, I think getting a payment acquired fast would be an attribute worthy of Sonic the Hedgehog. Dubbed the fastest creature in existence, Sonic's speed could produce a fast work rate that would eventually be his signature. His attitude can be felt when in the face of danger and it would be that very attitude that would have to be toned down. Sonic isn't exactly the most favored person to his enemies, so a hedgehog that operates in a more professional manner could lead to greater business.

It's easy to see that video game characters could be unpredictable, especially when it comes to the world of debt collecting. Personalities are abundant, without question, and there's no telling what would transpire. However, these characters are only works of fiction and only the creators can draw a true path for them. The fans are only left to speculate and make up their own stories. It's a fun scenario to think about, since the real world has implications that the virtual world lacks.
