The Type Of Presents We Would Like To Receive This Christmas

By Alaric Sowerby

Once I was just a child, I absolutely loved Christmas. Aside from my birthday, Christmas was simply so exciting to celebrate. Among the many reasons why it is a really magnificent occasion for all of us children is because we could be very self-centered specifically when it goes to asking Santa Claus the gift that we all would like for Christmas. It's the only time in the entire year which we don't really understand what we're celebrating but we all know that we're really happy.

For most kids, the very first ones on the list are probably toys. Many years back, it was quite easier for mothers and fathers to look for toys for children mainly because you can easily find them in the toy department in shopping centers. It was in fact even somewhat predictable. It can be a toy doll, a plastic gun, a toy car, a robot, and so on. However, as years and years went by, the kinds of toys that children wished for turned somewhat difficult to find, not to mention, way more expensive. Children nowadays delight in mobile phones, game consoles along with other types of high tech gadgets. I remember reading one post from a particular social media website which says apples and blackberries were once just fruits to eat.

Aside from the differences in terms of the desires that today's little ones have for the Yuletide season, we likewise change the things that we desire as we age. Perhaps from asking Santa Claus for a very nice toy for the Holiday season, we may finally end up wanting or receiving more adult things. More costly and sophisticated items like sports gear or cars would make grown ups appreciate Christmas more.

When I became a grownup, almost every Christmas, my mailbox will be loaded with business Christmas cards which basically tells you the same old crap. I used to party like there is no future or spend mindlessly for Christmas. Once in a while, my best friend or my mother would give me personalised Christmas cards having sincere messages which are often very emotional. Nevertheless, whenever I think back at the time when I received inexpensive toy guns coming from my parents, it made me feel like it was far more thrilling.

Often, it makes me marvel if all adults feel the same way. I'm not really certain whether our preferences, when we grow to be adults, changes or it is the society in general that changed over time. It likewise tends to make me wonder what would be the items that I'd like for Christmas as I become an old guy. Would it still be sophisticated like the kinds that grownups want? Or would it be less complicated stuff like the toys that kids appreciate? Or perhaps, once I get quite old, I might wish for more difficult things that you cannot actually pay for like long life or happiness.
