Space Problem Solved! Space-Saving Ideas For Condo Living

By Christine Taylor

Every so often, living in a city like Singapore has its hitches. This includes living in high-rise units that are frequently too small for regular families, not having adequate space for belongings that accumulate over time. What you often get is a space which has so many of this and that, totally out of touch to the dream space you thought it was.

But is there still a way to make a complete turnaround and achieve that dream space? You could give these space-saving ideas a try to bring out those hidden corners and finally enjoy the life you have worked so hard for!

Get a bunk bed which has built-in shelves or a space for a study underneath. Have you ever paid attention to those bunks with beds on top and a spare space below? They would make a great space-saver for your bedroom and office. Simply add a table and chair underneath, or else fill the shelves with books as well as other belongings, and you're good to go.

Mount wall shelves, if possible until the edge of your ceiling, to maximise those spaces frequently left unused. Books are a very good choice for these shelves: install a continuous plank running the entire room, high enough to hold your books in place. These shelves would also make great storage spaces for trinkets, souvenirs, and collectible items which are difficult to store.

Use a wall-mounted dining table you can just latch back to the wall when not in use. This is not just an incredible space-saving idea; it's also very simple to do and very economical, too! No need to spend on steeply priced dining sets that will not fit into your condo in the first place. Buy a thin foam you could place on top, and just fasten a garter you can place through the table to hold it firmly in place, and voila! You have an instant ironing board as well!

Purchase a sofa which could double as a bed if you don't have enough space for separate bed. It can also serve as quarters for other members of the family or guests. There are also couches with built-in storage compartments, best for magazines, toys of the kids, or other things you normally would place on a living room table.
