In Indiana Fundraising Experts Enable Many Charities To Help The Community

By Paulette Short

There is a myriad of good causes that simply cannot operate without substantial sums of money. In order to get the money that they need to continue their good works, charitable organizations have to make the public aware of their causes and they need to appeal for funding. This can be a difficult task, especially because there are so many organizations vying for donations. Indiana fundraising has been developed into a fine art.

Surprisingly, the business of raising money from the public is not a strictly controlled activity. Many states have laws in place but a blind eye is often turned when youth groups and churches, for example, try to raise money even though they are not registered as non profit organizations. In many cases people try to raise money to deal with a very specific case, such as when a child needs an expensive operation.

One of the main reasons why so many charitable organizations are dependent upon the public and corporate donors is because the government simply cannot fund each and every social organization that believe that there work is vital. The large demand for funds has resulted in the fact that fundraising has become a profession. Many organizations employ people that are tasked with this issue.

Professionals tasked with raising funds have learned to become innovative. In many cases the appeal to potential donors is emotional. This approach is often successful because the appeal is designed to make potential donors feel as if they are responsible for the wellbeing of the community as a larger family. Other professionals use competitions, tax incentives and even social responsibility programs as a basis to encourage individuals and businesses to donate money.

One of the difficulties experienced by most people in the business of raising money is the fact that there are so many appeals for contributions. Many members of the public and most businesses simply cannot contribute towards every cause that appeals for their help. Registered non profit organizations are often more successful because they can prove that the money raised is managed properly and ethically.

One of the main problems with raising money is the fact that the public has become extremely wary. It is an unfortunate fact that fraud has been committed and many bogus organizations use the money that they raise in ways other than what they publicly proclaim. It is for this reason that businesses are unwilling to become involved in sponsorships with organizations that do not have a long track record of excellent management.

Members of the public should be careful when donating money. It is always a good idea to ask for proof that the organization is registered as a charity and that they actually do what they say they are doing. It is also advisable to insist upon a receipt and to even conduct some research on the activities of the organization appealing for money.

Indiana fundraising efforts have been extremely successful because the organizations and individuals involved do everything they can to gain the trust of the public and the corporate businesses that support them. Many organizations that perform vital tasks simply cannot survive without public support. The reality is that the government simply cannot fund all worthwhile causes.
