Frugal Tips For Back To School Shopping

By Cornelius Nunev

It is time again to equip your kids for the upcoming school year. However, if you are like most Americans, regardless of inflation, you aren't making any more cash than you did last year. So we offer a little advice on the best way to keep your children and their school happy, while staying on your budget.

Not simple to go school shopping

Back to school time is the second-largest shopping season of the year, and many stores are offering good deals to lure you in. However, there is one issue.

Patricia Hasson, President and Executive Director of Clarifi, said:

"Wait for the list [of supplies required by the school]. It's easy to be tempted right now with all these great offers that they are advertising right now, except in a lot of cases you're not even sure what the school is going to require you to get."

Bargains are really great deals still, and you also should benefit from them whenever you get the opportunity.

Electronic devices for school

When you are attempting to get big discounts on computers, iPads, notebook computers and more, back to school time is the best time of year, according to author David Bach who spoke with NBC recently. He said that families spend $217 on average at back to school time getting brand new electronic devices.

That contradicts Kristen Guilfoos of CBS-WSAW, who says such products will not hit their lowest costs until Black Friday at the end of November. However, it is unlikely your little student can hold out that long for school essentials. So we recommend following Bach's advice and getting those things as quickly as possible.

You can get things online and refurbished and pay a lot less for them too.

Getting other supplies

According to Bach:

"September is the best time to shop for everything else."

If you can wait any longer without giving your kid every little thing, you might want to wait just a little longer. According to Bach, the sales really start after school starts, so that is the best time to shop.

DealNews.com is opposite of Bach though:

"There's really no incentive to hold off on purchasing school supplies. A lot of stores like Staples and Office Max, they're offering special promotions that just won't get any better after the school year starts."

Purchasing in bulk could be the very best thing to do, and you also might even be able to find things for affordable at the Dollar Store. Paper, pens and pencils are pretty much the same no matter where you get it.

School clothes

You have to search for deals online and in stores in case you are going to get your kids the latest fashions and save money.

Sakraida explained:

"Typically September and October are the best times to buy jeans because they're trying to unload what didn't sell in the back to school sales."

There are a lot of major discounts you can look for at brand name stores. If you want until school begins, you can find Abercrombie clothing for $20.
