By Jessica Richardson

Coming out when you are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transsexual can be difficult because you have so many feeling that are setting you back. It is obviously a confusing time which can make you feel ashamed of yourself. This usually happens when you are still young and the thought of confronting parents can be difficult. It is important to look for LGBT Monterey County support to know how to cope with this.

Parents obviously want the best for their children. They want them to be successful in what they do. They want them to get married and enjoy the company of one another for many years. Most parents look forward to grandchildren. However, when they hear that their kids have chosen another lifestyle, they often think of what is in store for them as they go through life.

It can relate to the stigma and how they may suffer from this. Many parents just don't want to accept it, and this is obviously hurtful for the individual who has chosen this particular lifestyle. This is often the reason why the person will not expose themselves. They decide to get married and lead a life which appears to be normal. However, they will be struggling with other feelings all of their lives.

Teens need to discover more about themselves and their emotions early on. It is important that they find a community or a group which helps them to identify with others who are in the same sort of situation. A school psychologist can tell you so much, but it is hugely helpful when you talk to someone else who has been through this before.

Children who don't have this kind of support early on, are often anxious and they become stressed as they grow up. They may be bullied as a child, and these patterns will persist into their adult years. A teenager who senses this will often feel the same way in their younger years during preschool.

Most schools will have a school psychologist. It is necessary for the youngster to receive counseling at this time because it is difficult to know what decisions have to be made. It can be hugely helpful talking to an adult from a young age. This will help them to know what the next step is. The continued support as one reaches adulthood is also going to be helpful.

Often, when someone finds that they are LGBT, they are almost relieved. They may be overwhelmed with feelings which they are unable to control. However, it is a lot better now because they come to the point where they know what the issue is. When they talk to someone else, they are also relieved to find that they understand them.

In the initial stages, it can be a good idea to join a group or a community as well. There may be people here who have been LGBT for a number of years. You often build relationships. You learn from others and you can talk about what is bothering you. This will help you early on, so you can cope with the years ahead.
