Why A Rappelling Fundraiser Is A Great Idea For A Charity Event

By Maria Perry

Fundraisers are charity events held in order to encourage people or sponsors to extend their voluntary donations to support a certain cause. When marketed, presented, and done the right way, a fundraising event can be of great help to help fund and raise awareness on any specific cause. Currently, promoters have been coming up with more creative ideas for these events. One of these ideas is the rappelling fundraiser.

Promoters and organizers are responsible for thinking of new ideas to help raise money when federal sources fail to be a reliable solution. Fun runs are the most common type of fundraisers. A novel example that gained widespread publicity in 2014 was the ice bucket challenge.

In 2014, the challenge gained widespread attention through the spreading of posts showing the participation of members in social media. Participants either had to pour a bucket of ice over their heads or make a donation to organizations supporting Lou Gehrigs disease. After which, they would call out three other people whom they wish to take on the ALS ice bucket challenge.

With the help of celebrities, it became viral on social media and people started talking about ALS. Newspapers, news outlets, and magazines have even documented the novel idea. Another version of the challenge resurfaced a year later because of the magnitude of its success.

Funding for researches dedicated to learning about the disease was secured. Moreover, people began sharing their stories about relatives or friends with the same disease and people began to understand more and more the nature of the illness. In planning events like these, there are many aspects to look into. In order to expand to a wider audience, creative publicity stunts are often organized.

One of these stunts which are fairly new is this unique fundraiser where rappelling in urban centers is involved. It is exactly what it sounds like. Willing participants will rappel down the side of a tall building in order to achieve support for their cause. Even if organizers are free to contact news outlets during the event, the rappelling stunt itself is enough to attract the attention of the masses gathering around a certain building.

Of course, these events are not done carelessly without any safety precautions. Good quality equipment and training seminars will be facilitated by professionals before the actual event in order to ensure the safety of all participants. Not only is it a great idea for a charity event, but it is also perfect for inviting daredevils and people who simply want to try something new.

Since the stakes are high, all safety precautions will be double checked to ensure a smooth flow of the program. After finding a suitable building, organizers will secure the necessary licenses and permits from the establishment. Supporters will proceed to be invited to rappel down the building.

Each participant must be willing to donate a minimum amount of around a thousand dollars. Not only will they be able to experience a once in a lifetime event, but they will also be supporting a cause close to their hearts. So far, a few organizations like United Way and Over the Edge, have successfully undertaken the challenge and raised anywhere from a couple hundred thousand dollars up to a million dollars. In the end, it is a win win situation for all participants, organizers, and even beneficiaries of the event.
