When Ease Of Care And Attractiveness Are Key, Perennial Ground Covers Are What You Need

By John Allen

Almost every homeowner would love a lush, green lawn, one that is the envy of the neighborhood. However, not every yard is capable of providing the correct environment for that lawn. Luckily, their is an answer these people. The answer is perennial ground covers. They are lush, lovely, and spread out well to cover the entire area. Some even have a grass-like appearance.

Choose from many different types, heights and colors. Opt for simple green to mimic the look of grass, or choose something with dainty flowers. Purples, red, white, or blue, these sprawling plants come in a variety of colors to meet your landscaping needs.

Plants generally come in annual, and perennial varieties. Annuals are only around for one season, while perennials come back year after year. Each year your vegetation will grow again and spread along the area. The are somewhat slower to grow and spread than an annual would be, but the bonus is that it's planted once and keeps returning.

There are a few advantages to this sort of vegetation. On the off chance that weeds are an issue, you'll be ecstatic to know that pesky weeds won't have the capacity to flourish in the region where the beautiful cover is planted. The plant develops to totally cover the zone, ruling out any invasion of weeds.

If soil erosion is a concern or if your yard has a slope, these plants are perfect for you. They are great at keeping the soil where it should be. Their roots also keep the water from running off where it doesn't do any good.

Before you choose your plants it's important to know the type of light that the area gets. Some do best in full sun, some partial sun, and some grow well in the shade. There is something for every lighting option and soil type so finding the right plant for your area should be a breeze. With so many options it may be difficult to choose just one.

Keep in mind that the more plants you buy and plant, the faster the area will be filled in. If you're patient and not in a rush, you can buy fewer and wait for them to fill in. The choice is up to you and your budget. Keep in mind that your local nursery is a wealth of information to learn about growing rates and anything else to do with a particular plant.

When you want something easy, this is the way to go. Imagine no more weekends spent mowing the lawn. You'll also save money on the cost of watering since their needs are so much less than grass. Best of all, it grows almost anywhere so you won't have to look at a patchy yard anymore. Rip out the remaining lawn and add several of these beautiful plants, then just sit back and watch them grow. Even if you can grow grass, these plants make a nice decorative accent for areas such as surrounding the driveway, or around shrubs.
