The NBA All Star Weekend Schedule 2017 Is Here

By Michael Wagner

Families or groups of friends often go to NBA and other sports leagues games, as evidenced from the constant home game sellouts of many franchises. If you want to take your sports fandom to the next level, you can peruse the new All Star Weekend Schedule 2017 to see if any of those events are right for you and your family or group of friends.

The events will be held over three days at the Time Warner Cable Arena. This is the place where the Charlotte Hornets play, so it is already set up to give fans the ultimate in great basketball action. This is the first time that Charlotte has played host to the NBA All Star Game in over 25 years. In fact, 1991 was the last time that the weekend of fun was held there.

Friday, the 17th of February is the first official day of events. The big draw is the BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge. This is a game where the best rookie and sophomore layers from the US are pitted against the best rookies and sophomores born in foreign countries. There is always lots of fun rivalry and national pride on display.

Saturday, February 18 is a full day of events, so fans will really get their money's worth. It starts with the Degree Shooting Stars game. This features WNBA and NBA legends who have a fun competition to show that they still have the skills that used to pay the bills. There are no real losers in this game, and the winners are the fans who get to see legends in action.

The Shoot Stars game is not the only thing on the docket that day. There is the Slam Dunk Contest, where young stars defy gravity to try and be the next Michael Jordan. There is also the Three-Point Competition, where competitors are much further away from the basket when they score, but no less impressive. In addition, Taco Bell sponsors a Skills Challenge, which is a lot like an obstacle course, only for guards and point guards to show off ball handling skills and win a coveted trophy.

On Sunday, February 18, 2017 comes the big event, the All-Star Game. First though, Sprint puts on a pregame concert, with the cats yet to be announced. After the concert comes the game, which pits the best and most popular players in the Western Conference against those from the Eastern Conference.

With so many events packed into just three days, a few smaller ones had to find other venues in the Charlotte area to use. This includes the D-League All-Star game, which is the junior league where players not quite ready for primetime bide their time before being called up to the NBA. They get their own set of showcases that weekend as well.

A big part of the festivities are parties, including kickoff and closing parties. These are held all over the town, though not all of them are official or sanctioned by the NBA. Fans who wish to stay home and watch often throw their own parties to bond with friends and family while cheering on their teams. Either way, it is a fun weekend for all ages.
