Reasons Why Your Town Should Have Green Bike Lane Markings

By Timothy West

Employees, students, and common individuals, need certain kinds of transportation to be able to go to their desired destination. Some prefer driving their own cars. Others prefer taking the bus or train because paying a ticket is way cheaper than buying gas for your car.

Just because it is a necessity does not mean it is within the reach of everyone. Individuals who are less fortuitous have to walk long distance just to get there. So instead of walking under the very harsh heat of the sun or feel cold because of strong drizzles of rain on your head, just ride a bike. But before investing in one, know first if green bike lane markings exist in your country.

Riding a bike everywhere you go is undeniably cheaper. You do not have to pay for gas or install a battery if it does not turn on, because it never happens. All your wheeled vehicle needs for it to run is your effort and your perspiration. Now you will not even need to go to the gym anymore.

Because of the free ride, going anywhere just using your bicycle sounds like a dream. But there are two kinds of dreams. Sweet dreams and nightmares. In an urban city, fast paced cars, along with huge buses, and inconsiderate drivers, think that they own the streets. Which then results to cyclists going unnoticed. It is a very common cause of accidents.

Lane markings are installed on the roads to ensure the safety of these cyclists who drive side by side other cars. These marks acts as the bicycle lanes. These helps riders to travel straight ahead and do not need to give way to traveling cars. The same colors should be applied at all bike line markings so that all motorists will not have a hard time in identifying it.

Because of this, motorists will continue to stay in their designated lanes, which will lessen on road accidents between wheeled vehicles and cars. They will not be permitted to cross into solid wheeled vehicle lanes unless they plan to turn to intersecting road ways and parking. This will also encourage them to follow regular traffic rules.

This is also precludes driver from parking their cars alongside the highway. The bicycle lane marks also act as an assurance that the side of streets should not be occupied by idle cars. Illegal parking causes traffic congestion because the highway space is lessened.

The bright colored green markings also increases the visibility of the cyclist. Sometimes, mostly during at night, cyclists are not that visible when on the route. Despite the tail lights installed at the back of it, it is not enough to be seen from a far distance. Knowing that the cyclists are present along the road ahead of time can spare a lot of precious lives.

Finally, these lanes keep the cyclists off the sidewalk. Undeniably, most roads are scary to drive in, specially if you just own a bike, and not a car. You are very vulnerable if you are to get it. This is why they stick to the sidewalk. Pedestrians are at risk when bicycle drivers stay at the sidewalk because pedestrians could easily get hit by them.
