How The Spousal Sponsorship Brampton Program Works

By Linda Cole

For those who have decided to marry a Canadian but is from another country, there is a special program that the government offers in order to bring the spouse to Canada without much trouble. This is known as the spousal sponsorship brampton program and it is targeted to those who want to go to Canada because they want to be with their Canadian spouse. For those interested in it, here are a few things to know about this program.

First, one may be asking how this program works and how it would be implemented for foreigners. Basically, it is a program that allows the immigration application of a foreigner to be sponsored by his or her spouse who is a permanent resident in Canada. However, do take note that there is a certain criteria that has to be met before this application can be approved.

The first criterion that has to be met would be that the Canadian citizen who wants to sponsor his or her spouse has to be a permanent resident and a recognized adult of at least eighteen years old. Next, he or she has to prove that he or she has the financial capability to pay for the sponsorship. Finally, he or she has to prove that he or she has never received any financial aid from the government.

Finally, one must not have a criminal record in the country. The Canadian government is especially strict with those who have a record of violent crimes like assault or attempted murder as well as sexual offenses such as rape, sexual harassment and the like. Finally, one must have not been imprisoned at all if he or she were to become a sponsor.

The next thing to know would be some of the important conditions relating to the program. One of the important facts to know would be that not only married couples can apply for the program. Even those who have been in a long relationship but have not married yet can apply for the program as long as they can prove that they have been in a relationship for at least a year.

Now, showing proof of a relationship or a marriage can be a bit tricky because it entails a lot of documentation. Not only marriage certificates or affidavits are needed but also photos, messages, call history, and testimonials in a one year period are needed. For married couples, possibly documents on bank accounts, household titles, and credit lines are needed.

Another question that is commonly asked by a lot of people would be whether same sex couples are recognized. The good news is that yes, same sex couples are recognized so long as they can show proof of their relationship just like the heterosexual couples do. The same terms are extended to both same sex married couples as well as same sex common law partners.

Now, before applying for the program, it is important to note that it is a very lengthy process. The government will go through the application and check for details which may take months. But if it is worth it, then by all means go for it.
