Why It Is Vital To Donate To Poor Children In Africa

By Barbara Williams

In this modern day and age there are suffering people everywhere. However, nowhere else than the African continent has so many millions of people that suffer from constant hunger, no medical treatment facilities, exposure to the elements and indifference from their own governments. Kids, specifically, suffer terribly. They are not only innocent, but they are the victims of greed, drought, floods and neglect. It is truly the duty of everyone to donate to poor children in Africa.

Very few people can claim that they are not aware of the misery suffered by African kids every day. Images of suffering, hungry, ill and abused kids are printed and broadcast on almost a daily basis. Sadly, so many people view such images and stories of little more than passing interest. It is happening very far away and it has nothing to do with them. At least, this is what they tell themselves.

Not everybody is untouched. There are many people that do everything that they can. Celebrities have held concerts and performances and European royalty has clearly demonstrate their willingness to get their own hands dirty. These people should be applauded, but much more needs to be done if a future is to be created for millions of African kids living without help and without hope.

It is unfortunate that so many people fail to become involved because they think that their own small efforts will not make any difference. Nothing can be further from the truth. Millions of small effort is almost always more sustainable and effective that one or two very big efforts. Western society, especially, is extremely wasteful and the vast majority of people truly can afford to offer some form of help.

Giving money, even small amounts, on a regular basis is one of the easiest ways of being involved and to contribute towards the efforts of aid organizations. It is vital, however, to be careful about who money is given to. Their are, unfortunately some organizations that see hungry kids as an opportunity to make money. Donations should always be made to well known organizations with a long and reputable track record.

Another way in which to provide much needed help is to offer skills and time. There are many organizations that welcome the help of volunteers to teach, nurse, build and work in Africa. Many young people spend a year on the continent to not only help in a physical manner, but to show that they accept their roles and responsibilities as global citizens. In fact, in most cases these volunteers benefit more than the people they go and help.

Not everyone has money and not everyone can spend some time on the continent. However, anyone can do something to help keep the plight of the African kids in the minds of the friends, family and colleagues. Almost anyone can organize the collection of clothes and food and most aid organizations will welcome such efforts. Nobody should ever think that they have nothing to contribute.

The African continent is not a hopeless case. Ongoing efforts and a firm determination to achieve permanent change can turn this majestic continent into a powerhouse of wealth and opportunity. In the modern global community everyone is a citizen of the world and everyone else is a neighbour.
